The Pirate Bay is probably the most well known BitTorrent website on the web today. This Swedish-based site has been in existence since 2003 and has survived an onslaught of legal threats to try and shut it down. With over 2.8 million registered users and in excess of 1 million active torrents, The Pirate Bay is the largest file sharing database on the Internet.

MiniNova

MiniNova is another popular BitTorrent site that has seen over 5 billion downloads since it was first launched in 2005. This large P2P file sharing website was born after the first reincarnation of SuprNova which was shutdown in 2004. It has a good search engine that has advanced search options, or alternatively you can browse through the different categories; MiniNova has over 35 music genres in its database.

IsoHunt

A BitTorrent indexing site which moved its servers from the United States to Canada after it was temporarily shutdown in January 2007. Now IsoHunt is one of the largest file sharing websites that regularly indexes over 1 million torrents. The search feature on IsoHunt is basic and doesn’t have advanced search facilities like MiniNova but it’s simple layout makes it easy to use.

BitTorrent.am

BitTorrent.am was launched in 2007 and has quickly risen through the ranks to become one of the most popular P2P file sharing websites. There are over 600,000 torrents indexed on BitTorrent.am with the music category boasting over 45 different genres.
Website

Torrent Portal

Torrent Portal has an excellent user-friendly interface with good advanced search facilities. A search cloud is also provided so you can see what other users have searched for. Torrent Portal’s BitTorrent database indexes over 1.4 million torrents which makes it popular with downloaders.

BTJunkie

BTJunkie is an advanced BitTorrent search engine. It uses a web crawler (similar to Google) to search for torrent files from other torrent sites and store it in its database. It has over 2,180,000 active torrents and about 4,200 torrents added daily (compared to runner-up Torrent Portal with 1,500), making it the largest torrent site indexer on the web. Btjunkie is the 7th most popular bittorrent site as of 2008.

Demonoid

Demonoid is a website and BitTorrent tracker created by an anonymous Serbian known only by the pseudonym “Deimos”. The website indexes torrents uploaded by its members. It was the second largest and is the most popular semi-public tracker for over a year, the 499th most popularly ranked website in December 2008 according to Alexa, and had an estimated 3 million peers in September 2007. The site went offline on November 9, 2007 due to alleged legal threats from the Canadian Recording Industry Association. On April 11, 2008

myBittorrent

myBittorrent is an automated website, using the Google API to find BitTorrent websites on the internet. These websites are then crawled by bots and information about their files saved to the myBittorrent.com database. This is an automated process and myBittorrent.com has no control over what is indexed.

Seedpeer

Seedpeer is known as one of the most popular torrent sites. The site started out in August 2005 as Meganova and later on in 2007 it was renamed to seedpeer.

ShareReactor

ShareReactor is an index site for files on the eDonkey network and Torrent files . ShareReactor does not host any files; instead, the links it contains are accessible through an eDonkey network and BitTorrent client. The site was taken down by Swiss Police on March 10, 2004 due to the suspicion of breach of copyright and trademark laws. After a long downtime of nearly two years and six months, the site returned online under new ownership. However nearly two months after its return it once again closed down due to lack of popularity. ShareReactor delivers links that can be used together with a P2P client program that understands eD2k links or torrent files. On December, 2008 the site was reopened once more brought back to life with help from the Pirate Bay team.

Suprnova.org

Suprnova.org is a Swedish (formerly Slovenian) based website which distributed torrents for various music and video files, computer programs and games. Started in late 2002 by Andrej Preston (known as Slonček, Slovenian for “little elephant”) and for a while considered the most popular BitTorrent search engine, Suprnova.org closed in late 2004 after legal threats. The site operators supported the development of the eXeem BitTorrent client software, deeming a fixed website too difficult to operate in the present legal climate. On August 2, 2007, the domain name was donated to The Pirate Bay, who relaunched the site on August 21, 2007.

FlixFlux

FlixFlux is a specialist torrent search site for films. The site was originally launched in mid 2006 with a basic search facility, and a list of new film releases. The site was relaunched in December 2006 with a complete redesign, and many new features.

Torrentz

Torrentz is a torrent meta-search engine based in Sweden (run by an admin, who goes by the name Flippy) that indexes torrents from various major torrent sites like Mininova, Demonoid, and The Pirate Bay.

YouTorrent

YouTorrent is a BitTorrent search engine which allows parallel searches on different torrent search engines. As of April 14, 2008, YouTorrent changed from searching all torrent sites to only sites which provide licensed, certified content.

The datacenter features redundant UPS systems, generator backup, VESPA detection systems, closed circuit monitoring of all areas and entrances, 24 hour guard manned security, redundant a/c systems, and fiber from 5 separate providers.

Over the years WebFaction built their own monitoring systems which detect potential problems on servers before they can cause any crashes. They also put fewer people on each server than most hosting providers. As a result many people have reported that the servers were faster and more stable than the competitor’s.

We currently host 183886 websites and got plenty of room for your website also!

Our new corporate name resulted from the words: “Serve” and “Age”, that when combined (almost) spell our proud name. It is our goal to serve our customers while always keeping our systems up-to-date with the most modern technologies.
The Perfect Hosting Platform

Servage provides the next generation hosting platform, and is likely the most technically advanced and reliable platforms available today. Compared to traditional platforms our clustered platform revolutionizes the way web hosting works.

Downtime is not an option as all systems are in redundant setups – even our servers is mirrored in a fail tolerant way. In the event one server should fail it is automatically replaced by the other cluster nodes. Read more about this exciting technology, here.

Customer Satisfaction

Cluster reliability, speed and customer services are the keywords for our operation. Every single person in our organization understands this and works toward our common goal of total customer satisfaction. We understand satisfied customers are the key to our long term success in this competitive market.

Every single customer is treated with respect and our staff is standing by to help you around the clock – we are only one click away!

It is a pioneer of “grid hosting”, whereby multiple stand-alone servers are linked to provide additional capacity for clients during periods of peak demand. Current clients include Qantas, Adobe and Rip Curl.

Services

Media Temple’s primary business is website hosting for more than 200,000 websites from 40 countries on Grid-Service. Its grid hosting system uses a network of servers that work together as a team. Unlike traditional shared hosting, grid hosting can cope well with spikes in traffic as it can assign more servers to help carry the load. The service was launched on October 17, 2006.

Although Grid-Service offers clear benefits over traditional shared hosting solutions, it has come under criticism for service outages. Intermittent service availability has been a frequent problem. In one case, periodical downtime occurred between April 29, 2008 and May 28, 2008, until engineers made substantial changes to the system’s storage architecture.

Grid-Service will be replaced by a Cluster-Server in 2009. It will feature a re-architected storage system which will be designed to eliminate the main source of service instability that the Grid-Service suffered from.

Media Temple also provides a dedicated hosting service providing virtual private servers designed for clients whose websites experience high levels of traffic. Current clients include Diesel, Adobe, Rip Curl, Mashable, CheeseMind and Qantas

Ever Wonder what most people are searching on the web? or what are the most visited websites for the day?, Most Search Engines are developing tools to analyze these data and are freely available to anyone. Here’s some online tools to analyze Search terms, and websites.

Search Trends

Google Trends

Google Trends is a web-based tool under development by Google Labs. The tool measures the search volume for terms in Google’s search engine over a specified period of time. Google Trends will display graphical results for a specific term’s popularity and allow you to compare search volumes with other search terms. Google Trends also compiles and displays a list of the most popular terms for which people have recently searched. Learn More.

Yahoo Buzz!

Yahoo! Buzz is a service much like Digg offered by search engine Yahoo!. It allows users to submit links and vote for submitted links; Yahoo! Buzz then ranks the submitted links in order of votes received and search engine trends and places the highest ranked links on the front page of their site.

Live Search xRank

xRank keeps track of notable people and puts them in order for you. We count Live Search web searches for movie stars, musicians, and other famous people. Then, we compile our findings into an insightful ranking formula that tells you who the world is searching for most. The result is a cultural snapshot of who’s hot and who’s not!

MSN A-List

MSN A-list tracks popular searches on MSN network, topics ranges from News headlines, Health, sports to top Books and more..

AOL Hot Searches

Find out what are the hottest topics and most searched news and keywords on AOL Network

Ask.com IQ Reporting

Ask.com IQ (Interesting Queries) – See the most popular search terms each week based on millions of Ask.com searches.

Search.com top Searches

Lists of popular search terms on Search.com a part of CNET Networks, Inc.

Lycos 50

The Lycos 50 lists the people, places and things which are most on the public mind as reflected by Lycos user searches over the past week.

Website Trends

Alexa.com

Alexa.com is both a search engine and website tracker. You may search for information on Alexa.com, as you would when using a search engine like Google, or you may enter a url into the search bar to receive traffic statistics and other information about that site.

Jerry Sanders III grew up in the South Side of Chicago, Illinois, raised by his paternal grandparents. He was once attacked and beaten by a street gang that left him so covered with blood that a priest was called in to administer the last rites, but Jerry recovered. He attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign on an academic scholarship from the Pullman railroad car company. He graduated with his bachelor’s degree in engineering in 1958.

After graduation he went to work for the Douglas Aircraft Company. He eventually moved to Motorola, then to Fairchild Semiconductor. He became known as one of Fairchild’s best sales people in the 1960s and was famous for his style and flair.

In 1968 Sherman Fairchild brought a new management team into Fairchild Semiconductor, led by C. Lester Hogan, then vice president of Motorola Semiconductor. The troops from Motorola, also known as “Hogan’s Heroes”, were notoriously conservative, and immediately clashed with Sanders’ boisterous style. He was one of the architects of Silicon Valley.

In 1969 a group of Fairchild engineers decided to start a new company, which became Advanced Micro Devices (AMD). They asked Jerry Sanders to join them, and he said he would, provided he became the president of the company. Although it caused some dissension within the group, they agreed, and the company was founded with Sanders as President.

Sanders took his trademark style into his position as the CEO of AMD. He remained the company’s consummate salesperson, always available to come in on the really tough negotiations and close them. He loved visiting the Los Angeles sales office on Wilshire Blvd near Hollywood and staying at the Beverly Hills Hilton. Sanders always wanted to make money, but he realized that the key to earning wealth was for everyone else at AMD to make a lot of money too. While growing wealthy, he also lavished wealth generously on all his employees. At the end of the company’s first $1 million quarter, Sanders stood by the door of the company and handed a $100 bill to every employee as they left. Every employee at the company got stock options, a huge innovation at the time.

Sanders gave the company a strong sales and marketing orientation, so that it was successful even though it was often a little behind its competitors in technology and manufacturing. He shared the success of the company with the employees, usually coincident with sales-oriented growth targets. One time, as a successful sales goal was met, the company held a drawing among all the employees, and an immigrant production worker in Sunnyvale, California won $1000 a month for 20 years (USD 240,000).

He drove the company through hard times as well. In 1974, a particularly bad recession almost broke the company, but a brilliant sales deal worked out by Sanders with one of the company’s distributors[citation needed] saved the company. Through many difficult recessions he refused to lay off employees, a reaction to the rampant layoffs that had occurred at Fairchild earlier. Instead of cutting employees, he asked them to work Saturdays to get more done and get new products out sooner.

In 1982, he was responsible for a licensing deal with Intel that made AMD a second source to IBM for the Intel Microprocessor series, a deal that eventually made the company the only real competitor to Intel.

In 2000, Sanders recruited Héctor Ruiz, at the time the president of Motorola’s Semiconductor Products Sector, to serve as AMD’s president and chief operating officer, and to become heir apparent to lead the company upon Sanders’ retirement. Ruiz succeeded Sanders in the CEO’s seat in 2002.

Jerry Sanders has 4 children, three who are now adults and one who is currently living with he and his wife, Tawny, and is currently retired. He enjoys his life by travelling, attending cultural events, and donating his time and money to many non profits in Los Angeles and beyond. He remains in extremely great health, has the same entertaining personality as always.

Sanders created Advanced Micro Devices; his personality was the company’s personality — colorful, brash, and extremely innovative.

He has been the chief executive officer of Microsoft Corporation since January 2000. Ballmer is the second person after Roberto Goizueta to become a billionaire in U.S. dollars based on stock options received as an employee of a corporation in which he was neither a founder nor a relative of a founder. In Forbes 2008 World’s Richest People ranking, Ballmer was ranked the 43rd richest person in the world, with an estimated wealth of $15 billion.

Steve Ballmer has been known to be very passionate in expressing his enthusiasm. When Microsoft celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2000, Ballmer popped out of the anniversary cake to surprise the audience. His wild screaming and dancing on stage at an employees convention was caught on a widely-circulated video known as “Steve Ballmer going crazy.” A few days later at a developers’ conference, a sweat-soaked Ballmer repeatedly chanted “developers” in front of the bemused gathering.

Family

On October 4, 2007, Ballmer was awarded honorary citizenship of Lausen, Switzerland. His father had worked in that country as a manager at Ford Motor Co in the late 1940s. In 1990 Ballmer married Connie Snyder, on Microsoft’s PR team at the Waggener Group in the ’80s. They have three children. Ballmer’s grandfather lives in Minsk, Belarus.

Career

Pre-Microsoft & Life History

Steve Ballmer was born March 24, 1956, to a Swiss father and a Jewish-American mother whose family came from the Eastern European city of Pinsk (today in Belarus). He grew up in Farmington Hills, Michigan. In 1973, he graduated from Detroit Country Day School, a high school, and now sits on its board of directors. In 1977, he graduated from Harvard University with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and economics. While in college, Ballmer managed the football team, worked on the Harvard Crimson newspaper as well as the Harvard Advocate, and lived down the hall from fellow sophomore Bill Gates. He then worked for two years as an assistant product manager at Procter & Gamble, where he shared an office with Jeffrey R. Immelt, the current CEO of General Electric. In 1980, he dropped out from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business.

Microsoft career

Ballmer joined Microsoft on June 11, 1980., and became Microsoft’s 24th employee, the first business manager hired by Gates. He was initially offered a salary of $50,000 as well as a percentage of ownership of the company. When Microsoft was incorporated in 1981, Ballmer owned 8 percent of the company. He has headed several divisions within Microsoft including “Operating Systems Development”, “Operations”, and “Sales and Support.” In January 2000, he was officially named chief executive officer. As CEO Ballmer handled company finances, however Gates still retained control of the “technological vision.” In 2003, Ballmer sold 8.3% of his shareholdings, leaving him with a 4% stake in the company. The same year, Ballmer replaced Microsoft’s employee stock options program, which had been instrumental in making early employees millionaires.
